ALL STUDENTS
—who are completing the major’s basic program, students with a GPA below 2.5, university athletes, and students in their first semester assigned to a faculty advisor must meet with their academic advisor for mandatory advising before they can register for upcoming courses.
Students who do not meet this criteria may not be required to meet with their academic advisor, but are encouraged to do so. Students should refer to any notes sent by their academic advisor via TerpMail or TerpEngage to confirm whether advising for the semester is mandatory.
After mandatory advising for Biological Sciences has been fulfilled, a registration block is removed from the student’s account on Testudo, allowing them to register for courses during their University-assigned registration appointment.
ToolKit for Course Registration
If a department cannot make a seat available for a course you were instructed to register for:
—Forward any exchanges had with the academic department about seat/waitlist availability to your academic advisor by email so they may help troubleshoot and/or see about other registration options.
To find your academic advisor’s email, check the Biological Sciences Directory.
EXPECTATIONS FOR MANDATORY ADVISING
Students are delivered a list of courses they are expected to register for after mandatory advising is completed.
This list accounts for an appropriately balanced course load, registration that follows the Biological Sciences Curriculum and University academic policy, and timely completion of LEP-Benchmark Courses—which are needed to remain and continue making progress in the Biological Sciences major.
Students MUST read Advising Note(s)
Students shall review any advising note(s) they are delivered after academic advising—found in TerpEngage and TerpMail—whenever they register for their courses in Testudo.
Students are instructed to email their academic advisor to clarify any information that was included in their official advising note OR if an official advising note cannot be found in TerpEngage or TerpMail.

WAITLIST CHECK-IN, INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE [Department of Animal Sciences]
Academic Advisors for BSCI do NOT schedule or add students into closed or “preferred” course sections.
Once courses for registration are delivered to a student by their academic advisor for BSCI, then the student shall register for any open and available sections in Testudo.
If a course the student was instructed to register for has its sections fill up (no more seats), then they are to add themselves to any available waitlists once the waitlists have been opened by the appropriate academic department—check Testudo periodically if a waitlist has yet to open.
Academic Advisors do NOT administer course waitlists.
If a student has questions about when a waitlist will open or a seat that’s needed for a course they were instructed to take, then they shall email the academic department that administers the course for next steps.
For any registration/waitlist challenges through the schedule adjustment period, contact the academic departments listed at the top of this webpage, as indicated by COURSE CODE.
